Chapter 07 – Visiting Hours

[Author's Note-Sorry about the lack of screenshots for this one, but it takes place within the hospital and as we all know you cannot enter the hospital at this time.]

Welcome back!

When last we left the MacKenzie family Liam and Jamie had just become proud parents (again!). This time to triplet girls. Liam also had a long talk with Dr. Geoffrey Landgraab about future children with Jamie and how it was much too dangerous to attempt to have more children. Liam set up an appointment with his family physician to start the process to make certain Jamie was never put in danger again.

Jamie unfortunately spent many days recovering in the hospital after the birth of the triplets. The girls were low birth weight and were in the PICU at the hospital while they put on enough weight to be sent home. Liam came every day and brought the twins and Alec to see their mom.

“I dinnae know if Cpt Wainwright took pity on our family or nae Jamie, but she’s offered me another promotion! Now I’m a Undercover Specialist!” he said with a grin while sitting in the cushy chair beside her hospital bed. Being one of the trauma surgeons on staff afforded her a private room. Jamie was actually quite thrilled to be in the hospital for a little while; she loved every minute of catching up with all the news and gossip. Having had such a tough pregnancy she had been off on maternity leave for quite some time. She was enjoying seeing her fellow staff and people stopped in several times a day to share news and say hello and they couldn’t wait until she was back at work again. Her hospital room overflowed with cards, balloons, plants and stuffed animals.
“That’s fantastic Liam! I’m certain she’s not taking pity on us either, you’re a fine Cop and being part of the special investigation Task force you’ve proven time and again how good you are at your job.” She reached out and caressed his hand gently with her thumb.
“Aye, I sure miss ye at home love,” Liam looked deep into Jamie’s eyes a restless hunger seeming settled there in the depths of his emerald eyes. “I miss your scent on our pillas and the feel of you snuggled aginst me” he said with a voice filled with emotion.
Jamie smiled at his display of emotion, “I miss you too Liam,” she assured him gently. “It should not be much longer that I’m here. I believe I’m fully recovered. Though they say Doctors and Nurses make the worst patients. Always trying to self diagnose,” She chuckled. “I believe Geoffrey is going to sign my discharge papers tomorrow morning and I’ll be on my way home. I think the girls have to stay a few more days though. Caitir especially seems a bit low on the scale so far.”
“Aye, she can squall that one can,” Liam chuckled thinking of the tiny little apple he had held in his hand. He’d been dressed in the gowns and masks when the nurses allowed him to hold each of the girls. He couldn’t even believe that they were his children. Even the twins had been so much bigger when they were born. The nursing staff assured him that it was his daughter but her tiny head barely filled his palm. “It was kind of ye Jamie to not only name Alec after my Da but Caitir after my Mam.” Jamie smiled at her husband.
“I know you miss your family Liam, I also hope it entices them to take a trip over here to see their grandchildren,” Jamie said with a smile. “I also wasn’t completely unselfish if you remember, I also decided to name Cameron after my father. I figured that Cameron could be a girl or a boy’s name so it seemed ok to me. Ceana however I think has been my favorite.” Jamie said remembering her second daughter’s pretty name. “Ken-nah C E A N A” Jamie had repeated to the nurse trying to make sure the birth certificates were right. They had already brought Caitir’s back three times. “Kay-tcher” C A I T E R she had spelled very carefully. “Yes, I know it’s a bit strange sounding, it’s Scottish!” Jamie laughed along with the nurse who had agreed that yes, it was very pretty.
“Och! ye wee mongrel!” Jamie scolded young Brian and pulled him into his arms as the toddler was jumping up on Jamie’s bed and attempting to hug her fiercely.

“Ooooh, yes Brian Momma’s very happy to see you!” she enthused when her sons came tumbling into the room after having been in the lounge with the nurses to give Liam and Jamie a few moments alone. “You must be gentle though right now as Mommy has a bad ache in her tummy ok?” Alec was grinning from the door with a slightly raised eyebrow.

“Mom! Momm!” Breannan said to Jamie while he tugged away from Alec’s hand and ran on his toddling little legs to reach her. Liam intercepted again and pulled him up by the back of his jumper. Brian was reaching for Jamie and starting to howl.

“Yes,” Jamie smiled at all four of her men, two who were wrestling their dad to try reaching her, “I’m very glad to be coming home tomorrow!” she laughed. “Now, Alec, come here to Momma, tell me about school and all your new friends!” Jamie was aware of how popular her young son was becoming. He was always picked first when they had games. The other children flocked to him it seemed. He was so smart and charismatic.

“Momma, I got asked to clean out the stink bug cages!” Alec gushed, while some might think this was punishment, Jamie and Liam knew Alec’s teacher well enough to know it was a reward in his class. Jamie held her nose, “Pee Yoo!!” she teased her son as he giggled and hugged her. “It was fun Momma and I was the first one to get the answers on the geography too. I was able to pick out Scotland on the big globe!” Liam’s chest puffed out a little bit and he beamed at Alec.

Brian and Breannan were getting restless and wanted their turn to play with their Mother.

“Easy now laddie,” Liam said as he set Brian next to Jamie on the bed. He continued to hold Breannan who was now attempting to grab fistfuls of Liam’s hair.

“How’s Mommy’s big boy?” Jamie asked Brian while holding his small hands in hers. She didn’t want him attempting to mimic his brother and grab fistfuls of her hair.

“Momm! Momm!” Brian called out in delight. Jamie tickled him and felt her heart soar with his laughter. He seemed grumpy so often especially while she was pregnant. It was such a joy to hear his laughter again.

“Alec!” Breannan pointed to his older brother. “Breannan see Alec! Alec! Alec!” little Breannan chanted until Liam put Breannan in Alec’s lap. “You’ve learned to talk Pumpkin!” Jamie said with a slight hitch in her voice. She was a bit sad she’d missed that event.

Jamie reached and hugged both the twins at one time and they clutched onto her!

“Momma come home?” Breannan questioned after staring at his twin. Jamie felt that her twins had some sort of communication between them and smiled.

“Yes, Mommy will be home tomorrow,” she said looking at Brian even though Breannan asked the question. Brian smiled at his mother and held onto her gown. Both boys looked sleepy and pushed thumbs into their mouths at the same time. Jamie pulled their heads down to her chest on either side of her head and they snuggled close.

She nodded at Liam and he understood it was probably time to get them home and in their beds. Alec had school in the morning and he had to get to work. He was loathe to leave Jamie and obviously the boys missed her too but these nightly visits were helpful and she was coming home tomorrow.

Brian started to cry as Liam picked him up from Jamie’s chest. He would quiet down in the car but Jamie still hated to see her son so miserable. Breannan reached for Liam and held Brian’s hand. Alec hugged Jamie tight and kissed her cheek. This was a nightly routine and she ruffled his hair. “Love you Momma,” her eldest said.

“Love you more Alec” Jamie smiled.

She smiled up at her husband and blew him a kiss because her hands were full. “Take it easy love,” she said as he turned to go.

Jamie nestled back in her hospital bed and both looked forward to and dreaded returning home tomorrow. Ah well, at least my cooking beats the hospital food, she thought looking at the half eaten food tray beside her bed.

Well if they needed a service to watch the kids before, they surely need it now!

I like the Gaelic names. So pretty.

To Hrootbeer: Ha! Honestly with Alec becoming a teen it hasn’t been that tough. I do have the babysitter come by when all the kids are in school, but for the most part they are just suffering through! Thanks for the comment on the Gaelic names. I was pretty pleased with them as well. Thanks for reading and commenting!

Awww the kids are so adorable even without the screen shots.

To orenjikitty: Awww, thank you!! The next chapter will have screenshots – I just couldn’t get any that would work for this chapter – I also couldn’t fabricate them because the twins are already children and no longer toddlers and Jamie has become elder. Thanks for reading and commenting!

Such an adorable family, I totally love ‘em!

Another great chapter! Even without pics, you create very vivid imagery.

I’m glad Jamie will be going home soon!

The names are so cute! I guess in a way it was like a short vacation for her before she goes back home to a house full of children. *cringe*
Great chapter! I loved it. I love Jaime, and Liam’s characters. They feel really sweet and loving :)

To Rusalka:
Thank you so much, I’m quite attached to them too!

To pah3:
Yes, Jamie has actually enjoyed her brief respite once she was actually feeling better. She’ll be glad to get home too though, she misses her family.

To Miniie:
Thanks for the comment about the names, I couldn’t find many girl names that started with C. As I said to Pah3, she did sort of enjoy the hospital stay once she was feeling better. All her coworkers came to see her and enthuse over the new babies and basically tell her how crazy she was for having 6 kids etc. She does miss her family though. Thanks for the comment about Liam and Jamie – things are going to change with this next generation – it won’t all be rainbows and bunnies. >:)
Thanks all for reading and commenting.
