Awwww, so much love. I feel a twist once the evil child gets old enough to manifest his evilness.
Chapter 04 – Oran-a-Chree (Song of my Heart)
Welcome back!
When we last saw our MacKenzie’s, little Alec MacKenzie had just been born to proud parents Liam and Jamie MacKenzie. He was a fiesty little boy and the parents quickly developed a routine to care for him.

The Mackenzie’s soon were able to take Little Alec home and get him settled. That first ride in the car was very stressful for Liam. He was so worried that the Taxi driver was going to quickly.
“Och, man!” Liam protested. “Ya tryin ter kill us all!” The taxi driver looked sheepishly in the rear view mirror. He was accustomed to new parents and proceeded to slow down from the quite safe 25 miles per hour to 24.

The small family arrived safe and sound. Jamie tipped the driver for enduring her husband’s paranoia. The driver smiled and thanked her. The couple settled Alec into his new room. Liam and Jamie had enjoyed spending time in the children’s furniture store. They had argued playfully about green or blue. In the end, Liam’s choice of blue won out.
“There now little Man. Rest your head,” Jamie coo’d to her son.

The family fairly quickly developed into a routine. Midnight feedings and changing of diapers. The Liam and Jamie took turns getting up with him.

“I swear the bairne is evil,” Liam whispered to Jamie as he crawled back into bed after a particularly nasty diaper. “He seemed ta be grinnin at my miserae”
Jamie murmured “Mmm hmmm…” into her pillow and continued dozing.

Even though Jamie was on materinity leave for a bit more time yet, Liam continued to have to go to the Police Department. He was working hard at earning a promotion. He knew with a new life in the family that the extra money would come in handy. His brilliant wife was an excellent bargain shopper, but the extra money earned from getting to Lieutenant would be a welcome addition to the family budget.
Liam discussed the idea of the promotion with his partner Hank. “I jus think it’s time fer more. I cannae continue on this beat with more mouths to feed.” he explained.
“Listen Liam,” Hank began. “Just go in and talk to Blair. She’s actually rather easy to talk to. She’ll understand and let you know what you need to do to earn that spot.” Hank finished with gusto.
“Yer right man,” Liam agreed. “I’ll talk to her today.” he said with resolve.
Liam made an appointment to see Blair Wainwright, his immediate supervisor. She was open to the idea and understood about his financial concerns. She offered him a book to read that had to do with the Lieutenant position he was applying for in order to study.
“Liam, you’re a great cop,” she began. “Let’s work together to get you this promotion.”
“Yes ma’am,” he nodded enthusiastically.
Liam went home and told Jamie all about his day. She was thrilled that his boss seemed willing to give him the promotion. Being the bookworm she was anyway she completely approved of studying. “I’ll work with you and quiz you too Darling.” Jamie promised.
True to her word, when Liam wasn’t studying the book himself, Jamie talked him through different questions.

A few weeks later, still on his current beat Liam apprehended a robber. The victim was so grateful she offered Liam a huge check as a reward. While very flattered, he found he just couldn’t accept the money.
“I thank ya very highly,” Liam began. “I just cannae accept the money. It would nae be appropriate.” he explained. The woman understood but still insisted upon buying lunch for Liam and all the staff. She had catered lunch brought in to the station. All the other police officers were thrilled with Liam. Blair was watching from her office and after the lunch she called Liam in her office.
“Liam, you’ve been doing outstanding work. I know you read that book I gave you and I saw how brave you were facing that criminal. Also, handing that check back showed a lot about your character. I would like to offer you the position of Lieutenant.” She held out a key fob with a few keys swinging from it. “The squad car is parked out back!” she finished with a big grin.
“Och! Yer serious aren’t ya?” Liam said with a grin splitting his face. “Thank ye so much Cpt Wainwright!” he grabbed the keys and ran out the door with a loud “Whoop!” Blair was certain she saw him click his heels as he left her office. ‘Liam is a good man,’ she thought. ‘He’ll do great!’
Liam drove home quickly and couldn’t wait to share his news with Jamie. He told her about the robbery victim and the new car. She was estatic.
“Liam, I’m so proud of you. You have worked hard for that promotion!” she beamed at him and kissed him thoroughly on the lips.

Liam returned her kiss passionately. The sound of Alec crying from his crib brought the couple back to themselves.
“Aye ya wee mongrel! Da is comin!” Liam called out as he patted Jamie affectionately on the rear and walked down the hall toward his tiny son’s bedroom.
‘Hmmm, we’ll continue that later,” Jamie thought brushing a finger across her lip still a bit warm from the kiss.
The family continued along happily and before they even realized where the time was going, it was time for Alec’s birthday! Jamie invited Hank of course and many of her friends from the hospital. She also invited the baby sitter who had already become so fond of Alec.
After a morning of cleaning and preparing, the guests arrived many brought food and gifts. The family played ‘pass the baby’ with the guests as they all wanted to hold onto the birthday boy. At last the moment had arrived and Jamie brought out Alec’s birthday cake.

“…Happy Birthday Dear Alec…Happy Birthday to youuuuu!” the crowd sang. Liam had the party horn while Jamie held Alec to the cake. “Congratulations!” the crowd cheered!
Alec grew up into a lovely toddler. Jamie and Liam were so proud!
“He has your hair for sure carrot top!” Hank teased. Liam punched his partner on the arm and laughed.

The party was a great success. All the guests complimented Jamie and Liam as they left saying it was a great party.
“That one may’ve been epic Love,” Liam said softly to Jamie as they placed Alec in his bed. “Jamie love,” Liam began as he pulled her into his arms. “I am so vera grateful for both you and the bairne,” Liam breathed as he held Jamie closer and nodded toward little Alec who had pulled his Teddy close and stuck his thumb in his mouth.
“And I for you Liam,” Jamie sighed softly and turned to go to their bedroom.
That night, they once again showed their love for one another.

Later, as they were drifting off to sleep, Liam was humming an old Scottish Lulaby “Oran-a-Chree”.
