Chapter 03 – Ch Ch Ch Changes

Welcome back!

In the previous chapter, Liam and Jamie MacKenzie discovered that a little one was on the way.  The proud parents couldn’t have been happier.  Jamie also had taken the initiative to get their house in order in preperation for the new life that would soon be joining the family.

Liam was already acting the part of the proud Papa, he seemed to find any excuse to talk to Jamie’s tummy and tell the baby all about the big plans he had.  He even made sure he told him about going jogging and the new little sneakers that he had purchased before he’d even married Jamie!

“Aye, wee laddie, you an I will get out an do some fishin in the great pond across the road.” Liam’s growled softly into Jamie’s belly.

Liam found this was the happiest time of his young life.  He had a beautiful and brilliant wife.  He was absolutely mad about, a new life on the way and a promising career in law enforcement.  His life before Jamie seemed very bleak.  His life now stretched before him like a long and winding journey that he was thrilled to be taking.

Liam insisted on taking over many of the house hold duties while he was home.  Of course while he was working, Jamie would have to tend to herself.  Liam tried to take care of things like cooking the meals and making sure the house was clean.

“Darling, you really don’t need to cook every night!” Jamie chided Liam gently.

“Nonsense!” Liam scoffed.  “We’re in this together love.”  He seemed decided so Jamie just enjoyed being pampered.  It was a nice change for her always being the one to provide for and administer while at work.

The days began to mount as Jamie enjoyed most of the days of her pregnancy.  She and Liam took turns selecting music for the baby to listen to and giggling as she waddled to the bathroom or kitchen.  Liam took over the “Preggers!” book whenever Jamie put it down insisting that she had more time to read while he was at work.  They spent time quizzing each other and laughing over some of the more unusual craving’s some mother’s claimed to have.

Not every day was a good one though during the pregnancy and Liam helped the best he could to relieve Jamie’s discomfort by giving her back massages to relieve the lower back stress.  The massages did help for a little while, but the ache would begin creeping in again.

One evening Liam and Jamie were relaxing at home reading.  “Darrlin,” Liam began, “The book says that exercise may cause the wee one to be born.”

“Well, I’m ready,” Jamie gasped, “let’s try it!” so the couple started dancing a bit.  Being cautious of course and low and behold, within a few minutes Jamie did begin to go into labor.  She bent over with a severe contraction. (didn’t actually screenshot that darn it!!)

Liam quickly bundled Jamie into the car as they headed of to the Hospital.  “Can ye go any faster?” Liam asked the cab driver. “I am a police officer, I promise to get you out of a ticket should one of the other officers try stoppin us!” Liam explained anxiously to the poor cab driver.

“I’ll hurry sir!” the cabby responded.

Liam as anxious as any proud new parent rushed into the hospital behind his wife, who other than feeling the pain of the contractions seemed absolutely pulled together.  She also implicetly trusted her coworkers and knew that nothing was going to happen to her or their precious baby.  “Relax, love,” she soothed Liam. “We’re in good hands and soon you’ll be meeting your son or daughter!”

The hours passed and Jamie’s labor intesified.  Near the end of the birthing process she actually fainted a few times.  It was a long and difficult labor, but without any major complications.  Dr. Geoffrey turned to Liam and handed him a tiny bundle of blue.  “It’s a boy!” the doctor beamed.

“Jamie lass,” Liam began with tears in his eyes his voice husky with emotion.  “We have a wee laddie.”

“Yes, Liam…yes,” Jamie’s face was soft with fatigue and emotion.  “Let’s name him for your father.”

Liam smiled and looked down at his son.  “Yes, Alec.  My Da would be proud.”
