Hehe, I loved the Scottish accent. I laughed when I read it because despite the info you gave on Liam, I didn’t expect to see the accent in writing. I was having a latent blond moment, obviously.
Chapter 02 – Expecting?
Welcome back! In our last chapter, Jamie MacKenzie was feeling a bit ill. She didn’t give it too much thought though and knew she needed to get to work. She did work at a hospital afterall, she would take her temperature and see about some anti-nausea drugs if she didn’t feel better.
Jamie arrived at work and saw one of her good friends Dr. Geoffrey Landgraab. She smiled pleasantly and started a conversation in the elevator. Dr. Geoffrey congratulated her on her recent wedding and smiled in a knowing way and nudged her in the ribs asking how soon they could be expecting a young MacKenzie to be born here at the hospital.
“Expecting?” Jamie thought quickly and did some mental calculation. Well, it certainly was possible. She gently placed her hand across her still flat adomen and smiled. Liam was going to be estatic. She couldn’t wait to find out for certain. She smiled warmly at Dr. Geoffrey and waved goodbye as the elevator stopped on her floor.
Later during her shift, Jamie confirmed she was pregnant. She spoke with her staffing coordinator and arranged some family leave. She was a hardworking employee and knew there wouldn’t be any problem getting time off to prepare for the baby on the way. After finishing her shift at the hospital she took a slow walk near her favorite bookstore.
Being an avid reader, this bookstore was like a second home to her. A cheerful display showed a pink book titled “Totally Preggers! What to Expect When You’re Expecting!” Jamie chuckled softly to herself and decided to splurge. It was a bit expensive for their newly wed tight budget, but things were looking up and though she was a Doctor, it couldn’t hurt to read about all the tips and tricks of pregnancy that would soon be apparent. Jamie was looking forward to telling Liam about their child, but was also enjoying a silent moment for just her and the baby. She felt a soft flutter deep inside near her navel and smiled. “Hello there little one.” she breathed with a gentle smile on her lips.
Jamie arrived home to find Liam already awake. He sometimes was still sleeping when she got off work. Liam greeted Jamie warmly and asked about her night at the Hospital. Jamie turned to her new husband and smiled.
“Darling, I have some tremendous news to share,” she began. Liam waited patiently for her to explain her findings and was overcome with happiness. His dream for a family was beginning. He couldn’t believe his good fortune. He quickly crossed the small area that seperated the two of them and pulled his wife into a warm embrace.
“I am beyond happiness Jamie!” Liam’s voice heavy with emotion. “I cannae wait ta meet him!” His brogue making itself more apparent in his excitement.
“Or her darling…” Jamie chuckled gently.
“Now, hurry off to work while I get some rest. We’ll both be here when you return.” with that Jamie kissed her husband goodbye and affectionately patted his behind and sent him off to work. Liam was so proud, he couldn’t wait to tell his partner Hank about it and began talking about Jamie and the baby immediately upon getting in the squad car.
Jamie got busy getting a few contractors together to put some walls up on their house. She didn’t mind roughing it with Liam while it was just the two of them, but a baby was going to need a warm and secure home. She quickly got to work discussing the details with the contractor and letting him know that they were working on a very modest budget. They worked together to put something small together for the MacKenzie family. It was finally a home. Small and frugal, but warm and dry and out of the elements. The baby would know all the comforts of a loving home and family.
Jamie was satisfied with the small house and knew that they could expand as the family grew. Liam would be so pleased. It didn’t completely break the bank either as she still was earning a paycheck even while on materinity leave. The house went largely unfurnished, though there was space at the back for a nursery and a small office.
When Liam arrived home from work that evening he hugged Jamie carefully. “Och, Lassie, I cannae believe ya did all this.” he said his voice full of emotion.
“It’s all for us my love,” Jamie said into his shoulder. “Oooh…I think I felt a kick!” she said taking her husband’s hand and placing it on her belly.

Awww, I’m working at it and thank you – I’m not really familiar with how to write it out – so it’s a bit forced yet of course. I also don’t think it will continue into the Legacy because the rest of the Clan will be raised in the US with US citizens as parents. I thought it added such a nice flavor though for the beginning of the story. Thanks for taking the time to comment, I appreciate it!
